We left early on Sunday morning, and it took about an hour and a half to get there. You walk in, pay, grab a hammer, and walk to this pile of rocks. It's a big pile. Our friend who took us goes there fairly regularly and was incredible to watch. She knew what rocks to pick, how to hit them, open them, and all the other skills that Douglas and I were completely devoid of. We were just hittin' some rocks. But we did find these. And it was really really cool to actually find something from all the work we were doing. They're pretty, and the two little ones are so clear.
I didn't bring my camera with us because it was really dusty and it greatly minimized the chance of there being a picture of me doing this. I had on jean shorts, an old shirt covered in ink, big leather gloves, safety glasses that kept falling off, and sweat. And dust and rock pieces. It's a good thing that I'm not able to show that to you.
We did have fun, and I'm glad we tried something so extremely new to us. I'm also glad that we can say we did this and never have to do it again. Trying new things is good like that.
I love it! I would love to try it...and probably like you, not want to do it again. But it seems like something so rewarding to find little gems like that to keep forever!

Herkimer Diamonds are really amazing, you should hang on to those, or at least keep the one that is most appealing to you. I wish I had somewhere I could get some of those! Thanks for sharing :).
