I have done some serious thinking about my life over the past few days. I thought about how I wanted my life to be when I was younger. I wanted to live up north, where the weather was cooler, and maybe live in a smaller town that allowed me to walk more instead of driving. And I wanted to be doing something that I loved, something creative, making things everyday. And I really wanted to do it all with someone I loved and could share everything with.
Looking at this situation in a different light, with all that in mind, I would say what I will keep with me when we leave here definitely outweighs what we're losing. I'll get to explore a bit of the north with Douglas, build a new home, keep making things for anykind, and continue to grow this little blog of mine.
So for now I'll be staying in Athens, GA in April in order to keep up with some previously existing plans, such as Athens Indie Craftsravaganzaa and a few trips. Then I'll join Douglas up in Saratoga Springs, NY. I'm sure I will post a lot about the transition to life up there, as well as spending some time in Athens over the next few weeks. Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Ours is definitely going to be a busy one.
You are brave! I am such a home body and AZ snob! I can't wait to see your travels. It will be cool to see how NY impacts your crafting. I can't believe all this is going down in less than a month! Wow! Good luck and hope you enjoy the adventure.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through Elycia...Congrats on the move! NY is my homeland, so WELCOME!
ReplyDeleteThanks, you guys! It's nice to hear positive words about all of this. We sure are busy though.
ReplyDeleteI too found your blog through Elycia -- and Saratoga is FANTASTIC. Not to mention Lake George is practically around the corner! Now, that's something you can't miss! "The Queen of American Lakes" (I think Thomas Jefferson said that). I'm from downstate, but I've spent a ton of time upstate every summer, or whenever I want to get away. There are lots of craft fairs and events going on in that region too. It's no Charleston (I love Charleston, too), but it's beautiful and woodsy and just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who's from Saratoga, and I've been there several times. It's a beautiful place and so close to so many awesome places! I'm currently in Boston, and I love New England's access to so many different types of terrain and experience. I'm originally from Georgia, so I understand the shock of scenery change, but I think you'll enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Mel
It's making me so excited to get started up in Saratoga reading all of these comments! Thanks for all the kind words. I'm excited to see what opportunities for craftiness I can find up there.
ReplyDeleteSaratoga is a great town! I live pretty close to there (about a 30 minute drive) in Troy NY!
ReplyDeleteYay for a new adventure! I'm sure the move will be a fun change. I lived in upstate New York for a summer once and it was really fun to explore that area, having lived on the west coast my whole life. Pretty photos!
ReplyDeleteI also discovered your blog through Elycia. As someone who's born and raised in upstate NY, I can tell you that you will love it. In towns like Saratoga Springs, you can walk down the Main Street and know about half the people you walk by. It's an incredible place to live. I am actually sad to leave (graduating college next year and moving to DC), so it's good to know that someone else can call it home.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting so excited to get up there and look around. We're finding some cute apartments near downtown, so I'm super excited about a new place to decorate also!
