NORFOLK'S FIRST "FIRST FRIDAY"
I was so excited to set up at Norfolk's inaugural First Friday on Granby Street last week. I wish I had a chance to take photos outside our little area, but once 6:00 rolled around, we were busy and chatting with people the whole time. It was a really fun night. A huge highlight was that Douglas got to come with me - he hasn't been a show with me since we first moved here. That was my favorite part. I'd be lying if I said it was easy being here away from our family and friends, with Douglas gone so much, but nights like this make it better. We're doing things to make it better.

AUSTIN FINDS
1// 2// flashcards/Bingo card from Uncommon Objects // wooden card holder form Take Heart
3// 4// poker chips and holder from Uncommon Objects
5// typography book pages from South Congress Books
6// wooden flourishes from Uncommon Objects
These are a few things I found on my short trip to Austin last month. I was excited to find the little poker chip set for Douglas - rarely do I find anything old and cool that he will actually be able to make use of.

PARIS ON FILM PART I
Our trip to Florence and Paris this past May was the first big trip I took my little film camera on. And I am so happy that I had it. The five rolls of film I took are my favorite photos from this trip. I know that it's the charm of film, but it was so awesome to snap a photo and not immediately sit there and analyze/delete it. Here are a few of my favorites from Paris.

RECENTLY THRIFTED
Only one find from this past week, but it's a perfect little thing. I found this for a dollar while thrifting with a friend in Newport News. It's perfect to hold strawberry things.

PIECES OF MY WEEK
1// finally happy with our bedroom
2// 3// I decided to make my first quilt (maybe photos after...if it works out)
4// my favorite plant
5// things from the Etsy party at Kitsch yesterday
6// my favorite bag from the bunch I just took to the shop
7// one of my favorite things from the package my mom just sent
8// still decorating my workroom...
Also, I'm the Feature Sponsor over at Grits and Moxie today - check it out if you want - Jennifer has a awesome blog. I'm off to do some housework and apprehensively start this quilt. Any tips for first time quilters...like, maybe, just don't do it?
Happy weekend!

BEACH DAY ON FILM
We went to Chic's Beach on Memorial Day back in May, and I took these on the end of a roll on my little Slim Angel camera. Every time I get another roll developed, I love this camera more because I wouldn't have taken 90% (or more) of these photos with my phone or my DSLR - or I would've looked and deleted them. It's more fun this way.
In that next to last picture of Douglas, he's showing off his Model Magic creations. Yeah, we brought Model Magic clay to the beach, and he made a little crab, fries, and a hamburger. I made a ball. He wins at beach sculpting.

RECENTLY THRIFTED: CHILDREN'S DICTIONARIES
I usually try to only buy things at thrift stores and estate sales if I can see myself immediately starting (and finishing relatively soon) the project that I intend to use the things for.
I broke the rule when I found these illustrated dictionaries last week at an estate sale. I flipped through them just to look, with absolutely no intention of buying them. And slowly, as I saw the bright, simplistic diagrams and charts throughout the dictionaries, an idea I've had for years creeped into my mind - I've always wanted to wallpaper part of a bathroom with something like these charts. The idea has one distinct source: this bathroom. I saw this tour of tattoo artist Scott Campbell's studio a few years ago, and while I really liked the whole thing, I thought the bathroom wallpapered in shooting targets was just the coolest. I've carried the idea around with me, not really knowing what I would use, but I knew it when I saw these.
So I guess I'm carrying these around with us until we have a house of our own one day.
