GETTING BACK TO WORK

1// 2// new hand printed bags for the holidays
3// my new little sewing supply drawers
4// chalkboard weekly to-do calendar
5// a sweet surprise
6// cute package from Japan
7// a broken antler

It has been extremely hard to get back into a routine here and start working at a reasonable pace...I'm still getting there, but it's close. Maybe it's everything I'm dreading about being away from Douglas so much looming over my head, but I think it's also because I needed a break. It feels really good to sew again and start making new things I'm proud of. These are a few things around my work room this week that make me a little happier.

OUR LAZY TUESDAY + DOUGLAS'S BIRTHDAY

1// my favorite rug
2// working on a DIY
3// the best soup cans ever
4// squirrel eating crabapples while I was outside
5// Douglas's birthday cannoli

We have been having a lot of lazy days since Douglas qualified after passing his final test. His usual twelve or thirteen hour days have been reduced, so we have had more time together in the past week than we have had in a long time. And it's been awesome. It's the best just hanging around the apartment, working on projects or sewing while he plays video games.

Today is his birthday, so we're just relaxing some more, and later we're going to his favorite sushi place with a friend. I got these cannoli for dessert tonight - they're from the Italian grocery store up the road. They fill them there. It's amusing. We went to this store a few months ago for the first time, and I knew I wanted to go back and get these for his birthday. Can't believe it's already here.

Hope you all have a nice Tuesday.

WES ANDERSON NAILS

Get ready. This is the dorkiest post I've ever done. But I just have to. Douglas and I were at CVS the other night, and this bottle of nail polish just spoke so sweetly to me. And then I realized why. It's totally Wes Anderson yellow (examples one, two, and three...okay four). I love how he works this color into his posters, sets, costumes, anything. I have a deep love for unmistakable, distinct style in movies, art, clothes - the kind that you see and immediately know who made it. So when I saw this color and immediately thought of Wes Anderson, I loved it because it's one of my favorite aspects of his style.
On another note, I highly recommend this brand of nail polish called Spoiled. It's by Wet n Wild (a brand our inner teenagers all know and love) but exclusively sold at CVS. The brush is the best I've used and every color I've used so far is perfect after two coats. Just lettin' you know.

WHAT MY WORKDAY LOOKS LIKE

Today is a sewing day. I have the Saratoga Artists and Crafters's Market tomorrow, but also I really want to get some new stuff up in the shop. I love my little workspace. Today is also a making-refried-beans-for-the-first-time day, which involves me constantly running back and forth to the kitchen to make sure things aren't going horribly wrong.

WHAT'S IN MY LITTLE BAG

Here's what I've been carrying around town with me so far this summer. This is a pouch size I've been playing with, and I'm excited to add some to my shop soon because I really have enjoyed using this one. It's the perfect size and great to hold on to.

I used to always carry a really big purse because it felt kind of cozy having a bunch of stuff with me all the time. But recently I like smaller bags and carrying just what I'll need when I'm out. It may or may not be because I realized how cute smaller purses can be.

No matter how much I change what I carry with me, I always have to have this pink swiss army knife. It was my grandma's, and I just love everything about it. Aside from any sentimental value and the fact that it's so cute, it's also the most useful thing ever. I use the mini scissors all the time (just like my mom does with her little knife), and one time I changed Douglas's headlight lightbulb with the little screwdriver. Is there an object you always have to have in your purse?

DOWNTOWN 4TH OF JULY

Douglas and I walked downtown this morning for the parade and other Fourth celebrations. It was  massive compared to the little event held downtown where my parents live. I fully intended to take a lot of pictures, but I was so excited that Douglas was able to come with me to all of this, that I really forgot about it and just didn't do it.

I did, however, fall in love with this turquoise car. Just look at the inside. I'm not a huge car girl or anything, but I am a huge crazy cool turquoise vintage car with a perfect inside girl. I just didn't know it before today.

Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing day.

TUESDAY TO-DO LIST

Lately at night, in the hour or so before going to bed, I've been drawing out my to-do list for the next day like this. Here's what's on my list for today. One of my goals (ever since this post) has been to get back into doing lettering every day like I used to in high school and college. I really enjoy it, and overall it really helps me with my ideas and creativity. Doing a to-do list like this for the past few weeks has really helped me get back into it, so hopefully I'll be sharing more soon.

*I still have some buttons and crafty supplies up for grabs in my destash post below - for only the price of packing/shipping.
